One of my fondest cycling memories as a teen was picking up my first proper racing bike with this SR chainset on it. Each time I see some of their parts and accessories I'm always impressed by the detail and the quality of anodising, which is perhaps even better than Campagnolo ! I picked this chainset up for 20 quid and it's a belter!

Nice . LA5 version I think. I ran one BITD with Sugino drilled black rings .

The SR pedals were good Campagnolo clones also

My understanding is that there are three grades of SR components, Royale at the top followed by Apex with Silstar at the bottom. I have three bikes fully equipped with SR and would say they are some of the nicest and best value for money vintage parts out there with quite a lot of nos parts still available for a good price.
I think the Royale and Apex cranks are forged and the Silstar are cast, the Apex are also available with three different BCD so something to suit every purpose.

The Apex was good quality stuff. I really liked the anodising, very plush and silky. Did they do colour versions? I've seen black anodised chainrings.

I often wondered how far away they were from a full group set and what an impact that would have made had they produced one. Give me vintage SR over Shimano any day.
