How much is a council garage? You rent one then rent out 10 spaces at 70 a year. you get 6 spaces and your cost is covered easy.Being like.. fashionable urbanites, we're getting a bike hanger on the street.

Each space is £72/yr.. with 6 spaces up for grabs, £432/yr gets me all 6 spaces
Me and a friend thought about renting a space near a train station, using it as a secure bike storage facility offering services, repairs, bike washing and selling stuff.
Would be a costly enterprise to set up, but in the Yookay today people are getting really sick of bike theft. We went as far as working out different tariffs, hourly, daily, annual membership fees etc. Market research we did (asking cyclists at train stations) suggested people would be prepared to pay for that.

You'd be surprised. We are the same. They Bury them round the back in some random places. There's a plot of about 20 near me that's hidden by some allotments and back on to the canal. If you didn't go down there, you'd never know.
I though about renting one for a few month to get my own garage rebuilt.
Think I'd rather dig an underground bunker though.
Yes, it's becoming quite popular, we were looking at it in 2020 and could find only a couple.
As for bike hangars, they're only as secure as the people who have access to them.
We have one at work, you need pass cards to get in etc, but it doesn't stop theft. People leave them open '''''by accident''''' and random passers by with faces covered stroll in with tools.

I used to sub-let one years ago under a block of flats for a fiver /mth.. i put my Beetle in there over the winter and put my Landrover in there over the summer.. there was no partition between mine and the neighbouring garages so i could'av just rummaged through other folks boxes of VHS tapes
