Dropouts aren’t anything like the Hots.

Deffo a mid range 98/99 frame.

I don’t think people tend to down grade models so at best it’s a Kilauea but also maybe a caldera (not the cool one)

The reason I'm so keen to ID it is because I bought it

Hopefully the frame number will reveal all.
TBH I'll be more than happy if it's confirmed as a 98 Kilauea with 631 tubing. I'm not a fan of the paint job so that's going regardless.

Had a Kona dirt drop itch for a while now and this seems like a decent platform for that. I've got some suspension corrected P2s waiting for it.

It would be a nice dream for the new owner, but the '98 Hot (which it would need to be for that cable routing) had ovalized tubing and no chain-stay bridge. Also I think by this time "custom" meant custom paint and US made frames, actual custom options (such as the U-Brake Hot built in 92/93) appear to have dried up by '98, maybe they ended when Teesdale stopped making them.

Thats the only appealing difference to any other Kilauea of this year which are ten a penny

I'll wait to see it in the flesh before I make up my mind.
It's not original, there are inconsistencies with the decals which will annoy me, the poor masking of the stars as well, and it might not look that great up close.

It might look stunning and grow on me, I'm always open to having my mind changed. It's going to the back of a fairly long project list, so plenty of time to mull it over.

Looks like the paper that was used to "mask" the BB when it was painted is still in there, so there might just be some paint in the threads.
