Great news. Ebay drops seller charges!

Me neither, I didn't even realise I could integrate until eBay talked me into it over the last two weeks. Until then I just did it myself and prefer it that way.
My eBay account is private because I don't want to say to the world 'I have all this stuff and this is where I live!' If I had to do that I'd give in.
I feel like it's really just a push to get users to switch to business accounts to give them a guaranteed fixed revenue.

Very easy to have an alternative address for the business.

I have a registered address -as the accountants, a return postage address as our local commerce centre , a delivery address for stock and lastly a shop address.

HMRC are on it now as you likely know with private sellers. My accountant was telling me they’ve had to employ a dedicated person to deal with all the private sellers who now are needing assistance with their tax situation.

Click and drop us a game changer for sure. Mine imports all eBay , tiktok , website and another site you won’t have heard of sales. Makes daily postage very quick.

Is your click and drop a business account or private?

I think it's like so much stuff these days, that the people making the decisions are never in the position of service user, and aren't even interested in how well it works.

HMRC doesn't bother me as I pay my taxes anyway, pretty hard to disguise the fact you're making a profit when everything you buy, you then sell for more money, using the same platform, who retain that info for the IR anyway. I have to do a self assessment for my dividends anyway and have a borderline obsession with spreadsheets, it's a no brainer.

And at eBay HQ, the staff down the corridor are churning out adverts in a plea to get more users on board. I think they should spend more time hanging around the coffee machines together - no productivity is surely easier than counter productivity.

Personally I feel that it’s not actually ebay who has chosen to do this with private sellers.

I suspect HMRC got tough on online sellers , and gave vague instructions to the platforms that they must adhere to or be fined.

EBay are likely trying to show they are helping HMRC as they don’t want to end up sat in front of a committee like the social media platforms do for many things that are somewhat out of their control.

If you're technically a trader, but shown as private on eBay, you can still pay the relevant taxes to hmrc, but ebay miss out on their (much needed🤣) 14%, and the buyer's rights aren't properly represented in ebay auto blurb.

I know they report you if your turnover exceeds the vat threshold on a rolling basis, and i think there's an amount you can't go over as a private seller (hence multiple traders offering the same item on the same listing from the same address) but I can't see what that is atm.
I only do a couple of thousand on ebay annually - it's not near 1% of sales, but useful for rare and random items.

Problem is millions of people run businesses and don't even realise they are! Hmrc is losing billions a year, so its hardly surprising they are putting pressure on / making rules to pick this up.

There was a programme a couple if years ago on tv about life on benefits and how the people survived / made ends meet.

Of the 3 on the programme, 1 was buying clothes from charity shops and selling them on various platforms.

The 2nd was buying plants from garden centres cheap, tidying them up and selling them to pubs and cafes.

Neither thought they were doing anything wrong..both went on national tv to tell the world!

HELLO! Congrats, your no longer unemployed....your RUNNING A BUSINESS!.

And at the other end of the scale, international traders using UK distribution points, staff all "self employed", ducking under the vat radar with multiple ebay identities, and probably closing up and vanishing before any accounts are due.
Hard to compete on price when tax makes up about 30% of our turnover.

Listed a bunch of items yesterday, no custom postage option showing for me, just simple delivery.
I always post via the app, but just checked my postage settings on the desk top version and no mention of custom postage there either.

Have set my simple delivery to be via RM only!

Apparently I can still select collection from home, but didn't notice where that can be selected - I'll investigate further when I next need something collected (I'm able to take things to the Post Office myself most of the time generally, so saves waiting until the next day).

Lewis hamilton can buy a private jet without paying vat and the likes of apple and amazon pay bugger all taxes in the UK, while all the bastards in the government have their wealth in offshore funds.

But God have mercy on you if you happen to make a tenner on selling some old crap on ebay.

Turning into a caricature of the Third Reich if you ask me.
