Allin Whitehorse 64cm Ashford (Kent)

Seller offered for £50 so I bagged this. So far I've not found a frame no. where I'm told Allin's should have them (L: Chainstay). Allin afficianodos will say this is post the Stan Butler / Peter Cobb era so not a proper Allin. Its most likely to have been built by Cliff Shrub given the 531ST design is post 1981 - which doesn't sound too bad to me. Without a frame no. the provenance isn't confirmed and this could be the product of the murky world of South London framebuilding and could have many fathers. There are a few nice details so I don't think this is pony. I'm going to ask Harry Rowland next time I see him as he knows a lot more about this era than I.

Previous owner lived on the edge of Romney Marsh which is pan flat and hence the racing gearing and skinny wheels. The tread is hanging off the carcass on the back and the front is cracked to fudge. He was riding the tyres like this till recently (!!!). Sanyo dynapower has been sitting there for god knows how long and isn't wired up (so not reponsible for skinning the rear Michelin Hi lite). Bottle cage mounts on underside of down tube.

I think I got to it in time enough to do an oily rag resto at some point. The 'Whitehorse' decal is unobtanium so if it ever got new paint I'd need to make some vector graphics for replacements.

Its straight and undented but looks to have had a life under its wheels.
