Yeah, the Max Backbones were probably better for Boxxer duty. The needle bearings and aftermarket links really transform these frames.I can't remember if I've posted in this thread already - I had a '98 extreme with the Judy XL for years and it's what got me into the DH/FR scene. I don't recall ever seeing one of the Mountain Speed link kits before, but I must have known about them back in the day. I did have the BETD long travel link and their bearing kit. It made a world of difference. I snapped many shock bolts though and the headtube was starting to oval from the Boxxers it ended up with.
Thanks, will keep my eyes open.Sadly not. I got the last BETD linkage and needle bearing kit about two years ago. You can sometimes find frames with them on, but, out of about 50 or so FSRs I've restored, only 4 of them have had aftermarket linkages and 2 with the needle bearing kits.
