I ain't sure anyone else built in forks like Cannondale but Rock Shox had there Ruby girl which appeared on road bike around the mid-late '90's? It was a fad for the one day cobbled classics ie Paris-Robaiux. Only lasted a couple of years.

Get with the program, man! Its all about the 'spenshun now! Theres even talk of 'elastomers' - no idea what they are

Re:

That's an interesting read LGF, seems elastomer is the future, I'm sure they were saying the same thing in the 90's, but now they have convoluted names for it
What I like about the Silk Road is that it is actually suspension, not merely a suspension stem or seatpost, and the Headshok keeps it all contained and clean.

Re:

So the new groupset finally arrived from China, Sensah Empire 2x11 and I opted for the chainset and brakes as well :D
It's all fitted to the bike and is working well on the bike stand, I'll be riding it tomorrow so will be able to make any small adjustments then.
I also picked up some Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheels for cheap locally, and between the change of groupset and wheels it's knocked around 1kg off the weight of the bike, the biggest saving was probably the wheels and chainset, new brakes and Shifters were actually marginally heavier than the old 105/ Coda stuff.

Re:

First ride on the updated bike was a resounding success today :)
No issues at all.

I'd heard of a few issues with the front mech being flimsy, and a plastic part inside the left shifter breaking, but the mech seems fine to me, and the part inside the shifter seems to be made of metal, not plastic, so perhaps Sensah have made a few changes?
I may just try a different front mech though, just for curiosities sake.

The brakes that came with the groupset work just fine, the finish is perhaps a little substandard, it's not quite up to the level of Shimano, but for the price I can't complain.

The chainset is actually really nice, reminds me of the Rotor chainset. Both rings are a single unit, and it seems to be Sram compatible, so when the time comes to replace (both) rings there should be other options available.

The cassette and chain look OK, I'm keeping them as spares as I already had an Ultegra cassette and Kmc SL chain.

The Empire groupset is purported to be somewhere above 105 but below Ultegra.
Weight wise its closer to Ultegra.
In use it certainly feels every bit as slick as 105 at least (the last modern 105 Groupset I used was 5700).
The Shifters have just one lever, to shift up you long push the brake lever inwards, like Shimano. To shift down you push the brake lever inwards slightly, similar to Sram Double Tap, but without the separate lever.

I'll see how the components fare over the coming months, in the meantime I've ordered a newer slightly shorter stem to fit the Headshock, it'll take modern 31.8 bars, so gives me options for aero bars etc.

Has a good read and some interesting stuff !

Yeah, thanks, all has been going well, I did fit a Sram Force front mech, which has made front shifts feel much lighter.
I'm so impressed with the Sensah kit, for the price, that I've ordered some 2x9 speed "Ignite" Shifters for my drop-bar Mtb.
Did 50 miles on it last weekend, this weekend has been a complete washout though, so I took the time to get my Zwift setup sorted, roll on some indoor training over the winter months :)

Nice one - weather is dire dire dire - washout the coming week too I hear

Re:

Took the headshock apart this afternoon.
The decal on the forks states "DD15 Headshock" which has a Hydraulic damping cartridge... What I found though was an SR Headshock, so just elastomer/spring.
As expected, the elastomers had compressed and become rock hard. Fortunately I had a couple of spare "Firm" Pace RC-35AB fork elastomers that were the same diameter, and with a few cuts of a Stanley knife I was able to fashion some replacement elastomers.
The roller bearings felt smooth so I left those alone for now.
A quick test and everything seems fine :D

Photo of the headshock with old elastomers (I forgot to take a photo of the replacements 🤦).
Hi,

I just bought me a Cannondale sr500 silk road bike.I took the bike for a spin and I hear klank when I go over bumps in the road.I decided to open up the fork to see what is the problem ,it has spring but I can't get out the plug completely.Im a new on working on suspension, does this bike have spring and elastomer? I'm assuming the elastomer is the part at the bottom?I'm also struggling to get it out. Please can you help as how you got yours out?
