Ritchey Ultra 1991

Time to get a thread going, as I’ve never shared any of my builds before, thought it was about time, I’ve got two other projects, this one should be rolling soonest.

I couldn't help myself when this one popped up on ebay uk, but lost out in the bidding right at the end... I tracked it down, in the end and got in touch with the new owner, as I recall he also had ongoing projects, so was happy to part with frame.. gobsmacked he’d sell!, I purchased.

It ticked Many boxes for me,

The right size frame
Came with a few Ritchey components
The History of Ritchey
I wanted a comfortable cruiser to ride the Peak District gravel paths with my daughter.

I’m going to build this as a 1x drivetrain, which I’ve tested on my FW Evans which has been a success.

Ritchey Logic seat? In black …or White turbo? … Straight h/bar? With high rise stem to fit Logic fork..Or up right cruiser handlebar…the Ritchey Logic fork has to go…

with this build a wanted a completely different look, so opted for a Tange prestige fork in excellent condition from KermitGKona88 thanks Mark & Bullmoose h/bar… from M-Power thanks Will.

Following this one. Wish I'd kept my Ultra. Both saddles look great. What about a white Logic saddle

Nice.

I vote for the Ritchey seat, sort of. I'd mount the Ritchey for the photo shoot but I'd have a Brooks Cambium on hand for actual riding...

What are your thoughts on drive train? Are you thinking about going with an 8spd hub, or doing something fancy with a 7spd?

Re handlebars, as long as cruiser type bars are in the running, I've been really digging the Soma Dream bar lately. I had one of their super-high-rise bars in hand, it has a *lot* of sweep, a bit too much for my daily driver... but I think it could go well with a frame of this vintage (considering it for an '89 Trek build I'm doing)... I've also been admiring the Oddmone bar quite a bit, which pretty much nails ergonomics for me... either one kind of vaguely recalls the Klunker look while not looking too... well, Klunky. I think they are both beautiful

Oddity bars are pretty reasonable I think for something custom, if you can figure out shipping

Ok reference 1x drivetrain, fitted to my FW Evans… tidy? Less dramas? Lighter? Ugly? I’m going to run with it.
After using this on tow paths & gravel routes last summer…. So Ritchey Logic crankset 1x using Deckas chainring With Xtr m950 cassette, always use on Most of my builds.
Any body got two?…

Nice Roberts in the background (I wondered who bought it)

I agree, both are cool 👌🏽

Amen to that.

Used Deckas on wifey's 1x9, works fine and I think they are well made, and look good. Wish there were more options for 94bcd cranks

Also I really dig the thumbie (Suntour?) -- in general I feel the whole setup looks really clean, and of course the forks are too cool for words

As for paint, I should probably keep my mouth shut, as I've been binge-watching OldShovel
