A note to bike thieves.

I appreciate the sentiment. There is something deeply emotional about having your bike stolen...until there isn't. I was mugged for one of my bikes, and after feeling many emotions - I realised I've felt nothing about any subsequent bike. They are simply a tool.

We bought our boy his first brand new MTB one xmas.. it was stolen a few days later.. it wasn't the loss of the bike which affected me per se.. it was telling him the bad news
...f*cking wanker bike theives put me through the emotional turmoil of telling him his pride and joy was gone, that's what hurts.. i was considering telling him his mum and I were getting a divorce just to soften the blow.. 😁 cnuts!

if its a town clunker, the type you can replace from gumtree for £50 you are correct.

However, if it's unique, or you spent many hours sourcing parts, or it rides like no other bike youve ever owned, or if its a reward for many stressful hours toiled at work, then i wouldnt agree

That was the point. I had felt like that about previous bikes. They all meant a lot to me. Since then though, regardless of how much it cost, or the time spent with/on it - I feel nothing. It's just a bike. Mind you, I feel that way about all possessions nowadays. Nice to have in your life for a time, no worries when they leave it.

They are not "just" bicycles. It most certainly is a worry when they leave your life because someone steals them. Maybe one day I won't care but not today.

In the time I lived in the city, something like 12 bicycles I had , were stolen. I always got used to a bicycle, and then grew attached to it, so it always hurt. I did feel the same way, just never thought of advertising it..

Now I have insurance, but I know it will be hard for me to get over it, when someone steals my bicycle. Much less crime, though, where I live now.
