That’s it …. I’m throwing the towel in

Rivnuts need nothing more than a nut and a bolt to fit. Screw bolt into second thread having already put a nut on it. Put rivnut in hole and lower nut against it holding bolt still. Keep bolt still while using nut to compress rivnut as the bolt is lifted. Feel it go tight. Remove bolt.

Yes that’s a similair method to the online ones.

Question is how do you remove a spinning rivnut with bolt still in place? Hacksaw?

The others I assume simply drill them out ? If a drill fits in the space

This frame has had a spinning bottle cage rivnut since coming here @longun never got round to it but last night, after numerous previous attempts to remove it, I got serious. This is how it went.

Cutting disc in dremel. Cut off most but not all of head of stainless allen bolt stuck in nut. Change to blue grinding head in dremel. Grind off rest of head down to ally rivnut flange. With needle nosed mole grips compress and pull up flange with point of grips a little section at a time head on. - softer than head so clamp on and pull until it releases. Do this a lot for about ten minutes until you've created a little ally cup around the remaining bolt stump. The stump protects the frame for the next bit as the ally grinds more easily. Grind off the cup and repeat the process. Each time the cup edge gets thinner until eventually you can push the stump into the frame. If you're super careful with the grinder there's no damage to the frame.

I got a stuck rivnut out recently. Hacksaw and about 30 seconds. I had previously removed the head of the bolt so I could remove the cable guide. After that, got the saw blade under the lip and after about 30 seconds it was free. I'd angled the blade so as not to cut downwards and damage the frame. Rivnut dropped into frame leaving a nice hole to full with a fresh one.

Getting the remnants out of the frame is my next challenge as the frame also has a stuck crank arm so I can't get the BB out. Not taking a Dremel or anything else to m950 cranks and BB though, I need them to survive any procedure. Damn the previous owner who rounded off the crank bolt.

Know anybody with a bearing puller?

Need to get the bolt out first, should come off with crank removal tool after that. If only it was the other side and I'd be able to remove it.

Doesn’t seem enough room for a hacksaw down the back unfortunately.

My main issue is I can’t see how you can get a straight line at the bottom seat tube rivnut with the drill.

I’ve messaged Dan Chambers to see if he will take the job on to remove them.

The issue I had was with the bottom one so couldn't get a drill in. I used a blade to get under the lip in the rivnut and prised it away from the frame, just enough to get a hacksaw blade in then sawed away carefully.
