Stripped thread on frame for under BB cable guide

The frame thread for the screw on the plastic-under-BB-cable-guide on my 1995 Stumpjumper M2 has stripped.

Does anyone have any simple hacks that I could use or do I need to get it rethreaded on the frame?

Might the cables alone hold it in place? Other thoughts were double sided tape or even glue but this would likely not last too long in the wet or if there are any sideways forces on the guide.

I'm not averse to getting the LBS to rethread it, but thought I'd check here first.

Thanks for any inputs!

Cut down a helicoil and put it in or tap it for a bigger bolt or even drill the thread right out a put a half nut on the inside!......just not too long as you dont want to foul the bb.

Bit of tape and the cable will keep them in place fine. Also have a bike with it held in by a bolt, though fine if using an axle/bearing bb it will catch on the shell of a cartridge bb if too long.

It's the m5 sized hole & thread that is stripped. Rethreading for an m6, with just one or two turns of the bolt, if that, could be overkill if I can try your suggestions, so thanks for those.

Or a new thought would be maybe finding a suitable old wood screw that's softer than the frame, cutting it to a very short length and forcing it in so that friction rather than threads keeps it in place.

I'd tried a low profile nut on the existing bolt but it conflicts with the BB shell as predicted above.

Re tap M6 is an easy option to do. 👍

A bit of ptfe tape on the threads and that will be fine. I’ve done a couple of bikes recently where there was just a plastic locating grommet type deal, no bolt or thread at all.
