Thick wax removal from frame

Hi, I’ve picked up a lovely Fondriest Frameset, it’s covered in a protective wax film! I’ve tried everything to hand to try and remove it (except acetone!!!) - does anyone know any product or tip that will definitely remove thick wax that won’t damage the paintwork? Thanks, FM

This is a good shout, I was keen to crack on so I managed to find a video on YouTube where they use bicarbonate of soda, I had some so tried it and it worked! Easy to apply with a toothbrush, the sticky wax came off relatively easily! Job done!

Be careful when using sodium compounds. If you have aluminium components close by then they may be attacked.

Same applies to aluminium cookware. It must not be cleaned using sodium compounds.

Xylene paint thinners are quite good for removing wax, tar, oil, and grease, but they should be used sparingly on paint.

Screw fix degrease might shift it,m or Genuine gunk will with out doudt

Thanks - good advice about the oxidation, I didn’t know about this, I’ll be sure to give it a good wash off! Yes, I’ve heard gunk is good stuff, I’ve always used petrol for degreasing so not used it before, I’m a bit of a cheap-skate! With fuel prices the way they are it might be a more cost effective way forward!

I would dis assemble the bike before removing the wax .The original degrease . The green gunk is a waste of time for heavy duty cleaning .
Do not leave alloy components to soak in the original version .
