Stem is modern with a quill adapter, parts are all over the place and mostly much later than the frame from the little I can see looks like Suntour thumbies (at least for the front mech), I would say the frame is pre 1988 when things were long and lazy, after that they started to get mre race/speed orientated. It's back up again.

Can anyone explain the stem arrangement? Looks like some weird combination of threaded and aheadset.
And what about the length of the chainstays? They look quite long.
Odd combination of parts too. Cantis are Suntour. Rear hub Shimano. Front hub no idea. Rear and front mechs no idea. Shifters no picture.
Thanks. Could be a nice project for someone. I wonder what it rides like?Looks like it's just a quill to ahead stem adaptor fitted. Chainstays are definitely on the long side but not overly so for a late 80's machine. I think they're Deerhead high flange hubs front and rear. The front mech is definitely Suntour and reckon the rear is too. Shifters also look like Suntour from what I can see
Interesting. Maybe that would give it a more relaxed ride, like some of the more modern, less race-oriented MTBs.I would say the frame is pre 1988 when things were long and lazy, after that they started to get mre race/speed orientated.
I never really noticed before, but it seems long chainstays might be common for 1980s MTBs.long stays are no problem and probably a boon (check out how Grant Petersen evangelises about em).
