Cool early RS-1. Check out the nice radiator hose clamp on the stem. This once belonged to Joe Lawwill (son of Mert). The story and many more pictures @ http://mombat.org/1991_Fisher_RS1.htm

very cool indeed .

lovely bike .

that must be a very early one , production bikes look deifferent .

Very cool bike. I remember that bike very well- I was working with Mert at the time to publicize his suspension designs. I have the first production bike that belonged to Gary Fisher before me and it has the first generation Control Tech fork- but with a rim brake in front and the same Hope brake in the rear. After I suffered a paralyzing crash in Moab while demonstrating the early version of Mert's fork-like on the bike you have-all the rest of those style forks were withdrawn from service to avoid potential lawsuits and then the Control Tech versions, of which there were 3--came out as replacements. Pat,
I was told that not too many of this generation fork are left "out in the wild". Most of them got called home and replaced??

Jeff- until I saw your pictures I was under the impression that ALL the previous forks were recalled. In the beginning Mert contracted Sandy Kosman-a motorcycle frame builder, to make the first dozen forks of his design. I took one of those forks out to Moab in October 1991 to demonstrate it to the press. There I met Rich Williams, owner of Boulder Bikes and we fitted it to his Boulder Gazelle. On the first ride, on the drop-in at the big bowl into the Slick Rock Trail the fork failed catastrophically and I was paralyzed for about 10 days from it. This prompted Mert to recall those forks and destroy them to avoid any further liability. I am not exactly sure who built that fork, but it looks like one of the Kosman ones to me and as such is a very rare piece, indeed. The RS-1 I have here is actually older than yours, because it was Gary Fisher's personal bike and he got the first one, but has the first Generation Control Tech fork on it. Pat
