Virus for 2 days now - not enough to be bedbound, but feel under the weather, achy. Planning this day out for a few weeks now, I'm going to do it anyway. Start the ride, going OK, if somewhat slowly, but increasingly feeling I'm not really enjoying this. Muddier and muddier, wheels jamming, push bike up long muddy hill, no energy, just at top notice cones loose on rear wheel, wheel rattling. No cone spanner among tools, hand tighten axle, wheel still loose, very tired, feeling ill, pissed off, last straw, throw bike down in disgust and manage to put a dent in it.... aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh! It's big and you can see it. Complete and utter B*LL*CKS, I am such a cock! Curse thin tubing! Arsebiscuits. Cut losses, head back down hill, go home. Spend 30 minutes cleaning newly dented bike. Bit late for TLC I'm thinking...

I am shaking my head and tutting at you Ed  "Temper, temper" as my parents used to say to me!

Come on then, which steed bore the brunt?

I must admit, the last time I had a stressy moment with my bikes was as a teenager. I used to keep all my bikes in my parents garage loft, and couldnt get my Pro-Circuit MTB down the loft hatch. So, I yanked it in a hurry, it slipped and fell. Bent wheel and twisted rear triangle as a result of my haste!

Thank god for insurance! New bike as a result, but I still kept the old one after the assessor had been as he classed it as irreprable.....but my lbs straightened it!

Better to sit it out with a virus. Did the same a few weeks back. Little virus but didn't seem to bad. Got impatient and went for a 2 hour ride in the snow. Felt ok while I was riding, but exhausted when I came home.
Sick again the day after and couldn't ride for a week and a half. Set back my training plans quite a bit. :x
Why oh why couldn't I just have made myself a hot chocolate and stayed on the couch....
Guess we are our own worst enemies.

Sound advise.

When I used to race, my coach always made me take 4 days off if I had even the slightest sniffle.....

reminds me of a time when a friend of mine got pissed with his bike becuase the chain kept slipping and he'd thrown loads of money at it to repair it, new chain, cassette, cables etc and we came towards a climb as he got out of the saddle to put some pressure on the pedals (and some of you are going to know what i'm about to say) the chain slipped and his foot dropped really fast sandwiching his nuts on the top tube! ouch!

there was then the crying shout through the woods of "F***ing bike!Bas**rd thing!" i looked round to see him in discus throwing pose with the bike heading towards the trees about 5 feet in the air!

Pissed myself!

bike was unscathed but still needed the new middle ring!

get well soon but take it easy when you get back on!

Have only just woken up after sleeping most of the afternoon - must be more ill than I thought.
