Taking apart/rebuilding rear mechs

I am intrigued as to whether this is possible or not, mainly because I have a couple of mechs that are in good condition in some areas, not so good in others. I'm wondering if it is possible to disassemble them and make one good mech from two? I know that some parts are easy to take off, but how about the parallelogram parts, is it possible?

I have a couple of projects if this is viable, suntour and shimano, so has anyone done this, or is it a dead end?

Mechs get old and the pivots wear; pull the mech cage down over and move the mech sideways, if there is play on the mech then it's heading towards being history - sloppy mechs = sloppy changes. The most you can do with a mech is change wheels, change clamp/adjuster bolts and change top bolt and spring.

A few old road mechs from campag and mavic could be taken apart but not so with Shimano

That's great, thanks. I bought a few suntour mechs so that I can make a mint one from some used ones so this is great help to get that done.
