Now I have a pile of parts do I put them on this RTS 3 frame or wait it out untill I find one of them posh RTS 1 frames?

Waiting in today for my latest purchase I thought i'd make a start on my RTS's final (ish) build.
So, merrily pulling parts off, cleaning them etc, all is well, untill... I come to cleaning the frame.

I bought it a while ago and it had had a repair done on the non-drive side BB area but all seemed ok and i've been giving it a reasonable amount of abuse.

Here's a picture of the drive side now

That doesn't look very good to me :cry:

Is that a second crack in that weld? TBH I'm not sure if you'll need a welder or a magician to fix that. I'm afraid that bike is dead either way.

I'd suggest getting another frame and hanging this one on the wall. Even if you fix it, it'll probably have trouble coping with any serious amount of pedal force.

Yep it is and I quite fancy some toast now :?

As I said it had been repaired before on the other side, which is still holding, but I wasn't even going to consider more repairs to it.

I will give a clean and polish and call it art

Just don't think I trust retro aluminium and always seem to sell the one's I start before riding them. Simply can't afford to splash money on a frame that might turn to mince.

I bought this one as I wanted to try an RTS having eyeballed them so much in the LBS when I was younger and this one was cheap enough, now I know I like them i'll look out for a good rts 1

could you get the b/b shell replaced with a new 7005 one and re welded?

you could wait for a rts1 frame set,dont come up too often my 92/3 one i got frm the usa of ebay,no shock £150 plus postage luckly the post office missed the import tax!

repair

take this to a half decent tig welder and theyd sort it out in 5 minutes, i can recommend somewhere, actually a training college in nw london that will fo this for free!
