If you have recently shopped at Chain Reaction Cycles check your bank/credit card statements

There are reports on several forums saying that shortly after a purchase from CRC a fraudulent transaction was carried out on the same card, generally mobile phone top ups, mostly for O2 network to test if the card is still active then a larger purchase is made. It's been reported that it's happened on brand new cards too.

SDH, Pinkbike, Bikeradar, Singletrackworld all have a thread warning of possible fraudulent activity

It may not be due to CRC at all & could be someone else's doing, but it would be wise to check your bank/credit card statements anyway.

no reports of paypal purchases being affected, paypal is extremely secure so I'm told, so you can carry on buying from CRC via paypal

That's a pretty major issue.

this could be totally unrelated but, i had a false email from viovet the other day
they said an old system had been hacked
but no information other than email was found :?

That's a pretty major issue.
No comment from CRC that I know of, I believe they are aware of the fraudulent use of cards after a CRC purchase

But

It may not be CRC at fault, it could be from another transaction on the card in question, you never know!

Always best to check statements regardless of any 'fraud warnings' on the interwebz

We would emphasise that the number of concerns brought to our attention is a tiny fraction of the number of transactions that we process on a daily basis, but no stone will be left unturned in our investigations.

Our own infrastructure is routinely and independently tested and we are confident that it is robust. We are working with industry experts including the card processing companies to identify possible causes both inside and outside the control of CRC.
