Thinking of getting a book to help me out, which is best to get?? Looked at one online but looks like its all modern parts etc, so not sure if that be any good.

Anyone know any good book to get??

Books worth having are

Lennard Zinn & the art of mountain bike maintenance

Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bike Repair

Probably a few more too, bit I've not used them

Zinn is easy to read & follow, Park is a little more technical

have a google and see what comes up, they're not that expensive anyway & will pay for themselves in saved labour costs at the LBS, knackered bike parts, not to mention the bloodied knuckles.....

Second the Park big blue book and as said above Youtube is a wealth of knowledge for technical demostrations. I wouldn't have attempted to re-tape road bike bars without looking up the various techniques, hints & tips first.

The old Barnetts and Sutherlands 6th (ignore the fact it say 7th, it's the 6th) are highly recommended for a retrobiker to have on their computer

you may also like the maintenance one's there, never used them myself but worth a look

You may also find this useful. I've seen links to it before and a quick look at one video shows it a pretty good

P.S. Modern and Retro are not that different, all the parts are pretty much the same, just a different tool may be needed.
