I was sure the one at the trade show in 88 was pure black and never had that seat stay, and that did cost 5k.

this one i'm not sure what it is.

thanks andy

This was outed the other day and I'm sure someone posted a scan of the original catalogue showing it was indeed £5000 new!
Horrible though!

The saying "you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter" has never seemed more apt!

There are two things that worry me with this bike

1 that marble effect paint never came out untill the katana range and 2 they never put the 5k bike in a catalogue it was made for the trade show as a look what we can do bike, and they priced it at 5k just to say if you wanna buy our all out show bike then you better get some wedge out.

I defo need to know more before i shall out 3k thats for sure

thanks andy

Hmmm...

I keep finding myself looking at this bike again and again, saying that it hasn't been hard as it's been on the 'bay for a while now..and I strangely like it :)

Components wise it would certainly be from around '88-'89 and the frame also looks to have been nicely fillet brazed. My guessing is that it was also some kind of show bike, showcasing what MF's japanese contacts could do at the time and with the new paint finishes on display in preparation for the '89 model year. It would be interesting to know where and which show it would have been on display at the time.

It's still worth nothing near it's asking price though, despite it's condition. maybe a 1/3rd of that if you're a serious collector as others have said on previous threads, and that's pushing it, considering what a grand could net you..

its defo not the original 87/88 bike because that stay was not around then and the carbon rings and bars was not on the original. they must of made another in 1990 for a show and this was it. but defo not the bike i was looking for which was made in 87/88 but it is nice but as you say at that price it aint going nowhere.

thanks andy

a 250-500 bike and no more and even then only to a muddy fox addict.

It will stay in the shop until the shop closes at the prices they have been asking.
