I have a bit of an issue with fitting some XTR V-Brakes onto some rear brake bosses

A picture speaks a 100 words:
Boss showing 2 'steps' first one prevents V-Brake spring reaching designated spring holes

Showing the V-Brake seated as far as it goes i.e not reaching spring holes

I am guessing my options are:
1, Lathe down the ledge (with the high possibility that this will weaken the boss too much)
2, Find some new ones without the 'step', all the Ti ones I have looked at on ebay have this step included..

Anyone got any others/can point me int he right direction etc would be much appreciated, this is the only thing stopping this bike being completed

on most frames that '2nd step' the would be flush with the mount on the frame - as LGF says, it might not be screwed in all the way, or that frame may use slightly non-standard studs.

I remember many moons ago when I 1st got v's having problems and having to get different boss things as the ones I had were too long and it was a pain, can't remember if it was the ones on my DB or Manitou...

The brake looks correct to me, its the post that looks wrong. Is it fully screwed into the frame?

There are two steps visible on the post, and if you look inside the M950 there is a step that equates to the outermost step of the post. But the inner step of the post should not be proud of the frame IMO.

Thats what I was thinking, any idea of source of replacement bosses? All that I have seen seem to have the step in the same place..

The boss is definitely tightened up enough in the frame.

If you remove the boss, is it too long to fit fully into the frame? i.e., do you just need to cut the threaded part down a bit to fit?

No, the ti boss on the frame is threaded all the way through, the boss that screws in comes about 3/4 of the way down the ti boss. I have also swapped in another boss from my ones on the front fork and it has the same problem..
