Bottom pull, top swing, top pull, A*se

Someone needs to add:

Buy bottom swing like this unless your frame has to have top swing i.e. proflex, because, apart from XTR's top swing split cage affair, top swing front mechas are crap and wear out much faster than bottom swing front mechs.

Wore two or three out, my best riding bud the same. Put it in the middle ring and wiggle the back of the cage, when dead there's loads of play, I've never seen a bottom swing mech fail.

If I recall correctly they were introduced so less force was required at the shifter.

and just to make it confusing, the front mech on my bike has the cable running from the top but is neither top nor bottom pull as the outer cable runs all the way to a hinged plate on the mech and the inner is clamped not on the mech but at the bottom of the frame where the seatpost meets the bb shell. (1991 trek 6000, and 8000) they both are the same

Forgot to mention the BB mounted versions for frames which require them:

This doesn't sound like the one described by Chute55uk though...
Have you any pictures?
