As above....is anyone here a Top Gun tig welder?

I need a delicate repair doing to a seatpost....long story, but basically I acquired a seatpost that got damaged before it got to me and have been looking every single day on eBay and other places for three months for a replacement....no cigar

Figured I may as well try getting this one repaired.....can anyone assist?

Neil,
I have a good friend at work who is an ace with the tig!
He has repaired a few alluminium and steel jobs for me and he is very good!
Let me know what you want doing to the seatpost.
Cheers,
doogie :D

Neil,

What is the material, where is the crack, and do you have a pic?

Rody....the man :D

Syncros Propost...head of the post, happened before I owned it....bolt over tightened or stressed in wrong direction...snapped off the lower bolt retaining hole....will post some pix on Monday (left the post on my desk at work...)

I had a cracked Syncros post and their is a thread on mtbr about it. Some people recommended against a repair as seatpost failure can have quite serious consequences. The picture in that thread has gone stale, but there was a 2 cm. vertical crack in the shaft, just below the head. Might have some relevance with regard to repair/no repair.

This is the cast/machined head of the post and not the shaft.....I will post some pix tomorrow so everything is clear :)

I had that happen to me BITD, 1994 I think???.

I figured that the front bolt snapped (I never found it) and because my weight was on the back of the saddle the rear bolt was forced back and sheared off the back of the clamp like yours

The next post I bought was the Carbon Bontrager... which I still use.

No idea if it's fixable... good luck though.
