Finally getting going on this project... If anyone can pin down the year it would be much appreciated =)

I was going to build this up with XT M730, then switched to XT Deer Head, then finally realized that the frame is just WAY too big for me... only way I can ride it is road style... so it's going to be a fat tire single speed build... Thus the model... Fat City Flyer.

This is the original colour, I did a colour match before getting it sand blasted... I also saved the original decals... Gil is working on a new set for me =)

I re-painted it myself so it's not showroom quality, but well deserving of the $12 it cost me in paint... =)

Deer Head XT Cantilevers are courtesy of Dee Eight (Thanks!)

Deore XT seatpost was NOT an easy find... 26.6mm !

Re: 1987 Rocky Mountain Fat City Flyer

Shown below is what I have been told is a filet brazed Ritchey stem... it was sandblasted when I bought it and was told it is a Ritchey (and was obviously filet brazed) so I gave it a fresh coat of black and some white Ritchey decals... to be paired with a Ritchey Bar courtesy of Antstark (Thanks!)

Now for the crank... I was going to use the black turbine on the left with new decals from Gil, but got lucky on ebay the other day and picked up a much cooler one =)

I have always called it the brass knuckle version, but I believe it's called the I-Beam... cool eitherway...

Now I'm on a mission to find a 42-46 tooth PACE or Blackspire 110BCD chainring... hmmm

Also testing out BB spindle lengths for the best chainline... trying to get as tight as possible... ideas??

Next on the list is Brake Levers... I was going to use the XT ones there to go with the deer head canti's... but open to suggestions?

Re: 1987 Rocky Mountain Fat City Flyer

Update: took the frame back outside to cure in UV Light and think I found a chainring that will work thanks to RockiMtn :D

Just have to see if the I-beam race face crank will work properly as a SS setup for chainline...

Re: 1987 Rocky Mountain Fat City Flyer

Looking good! I suspect the stem might be a RM fb job, very cool.

Any luck sourcing decals for the Flyer? (edit, just noticed Gil is making up a set, excellent)

I'm a huge 80's BC bike fan and will eventually share my small collection with the class.

Re: 1987 Rocky Mountain Fat City Flyer

Thanks! yea, I wasn't sure about the stem... but now it's a Ritchey =)

Gil is working on the decals for me, hopefully they will be ready soon =)

Can't wait to see your collection!

Re: 1987 Rocky Mountain Fat City Flyer

Finally 100% done!!! A True Fat City Flyer =)

(minus the decals which are not ready yet)
