So decided over the weekend to restore my Explorer and Trailblazer so dismantled the pair of them down to the frame and forks.

Nice to see the different geometries:

The Trailblazer resto will be in a different thread, once I sort out the colour.

So stripped the Explorer down to bare metal and derusted the few small blemish marks:

Brazing looking good still.

Sitting nice and cozy in the front room, ready for rub down and white base coat tonight:

Ive also scored some NOS Suntour XCD600 derailleurs and shifters with which to grace her, saddle has been restored and Gil is in wait to do the decals for me.

Updates will be added as I go. :)

I hope you're going to put the Trailblazer back to drops. I always wanted one of those or a Specialized Rockcombo

My first proper mountain bike was an Explorer.

I was sorely tempted by the one that sold on the Bay a few days ago. If I'd known it would go for so little, I'd have had it for sure. It went for £24

Had a busy week, workwise and paint wise. Lots of rubbing down and adding of layers.

Here she is ready for her yellow overcoat:

Trailblazer will be adorned with drops, this is how it came from the guy I got it from:

I asked him about the drop bars and when the straight bars were taken off, but he got it like this. so not sure if the previous owner had changed them or it had been changed at shop/factory when bought. As the levers and shifters are the usual muddy fox offering of that era.

But want to put it back to Catalogue spec. If i can find suitable drop bars that is.

Awesome, look forward to seeing that :)
