Just picked this up for what I don't consider to be a lot. This is with a view to having the frame painted as a red/black ti replica. And yes it really is that big! Maybe too big.

Frame number (as best I can make out) WK7000080

I know nothing more so anything to help with year etc and how original it is would be a help. Also a Wolber 430 hard anodised front wheel but no rear.

The George O' Donovan sticker is a nice touch. Already christened 'God'

The saddle has seen better days but is sound. Are the bars and stem worth keeping or replacing with a cinelli pair I have here?

Thanks for any help/pointers guys THM

Re: Raleigh 531 help with I.D. Please

That is rather nice, and a lot better than I was expecting.

I don't know about the stem, a lot depends on the reach, but there's nothing wrong with those bars.

Have you taken it down the road yet? You have haven't you.

Re: Raleigh 531 help with I.D. Please

Another blooming visitor.

Will get some TLC tomorrow. Then a ride. The pedals are missing some screws that hold the weird clip plates (triangular) on, one of which is missing.

Re: Raleigh 531 help with I.D. Please

Not my area of expertise, but the pedals look like Shimano Tricolor 600's, or something similar.

Its a 1986/1987 Ilkeston built Type 8806 from the SBDU (Specialist Bicycle Development Unit). They didn't appear in the public brochures of the time.

Thanks for the links. Just read them. So you're saying this is an SBDU frame?

Yes. Special Order.

A REAL winter training bike..... no excuses now.

Well, apart from the obvious one.
