La Peugeot - c'est fini

amazed at how clean it was upon arrival. Original paint and complete decals..!

Label dated July 1985, and model P10PG in 'Misty Blue'

.
Came with a 5speed Maillard freewheel, RIGIDA Superchromix rims [vgc], and a Simplex SX410 rear mech.
No restoring was required - however relubed all the bearings, trued the rims and added new tubes, bar-tape, and brake and gear cables. .. And a new Bontrager saddle.
Some slight tarnish on the original Lyotard pedals - easily removed - clips added.

.

very pleased with this - my first road bike since the late 1950s

.

.

.

now waiting for some sun in a wet southwest Scotland..!..... :D

............ maybe just look at that saddle angle un peu?

not ridden yet...still raining...but it's an odd shape with sloping cut-outs at the read and a rise forward

cheers

Thanks for the update, had been following the other thread and have to say, that is a really beautiful machine. It just 'looks' right.
More pics and a ride report would be really welcomed, especially with your thoughts of it being your first road machine since the 50's.
All the best
Jamie

nice
just needs C-cell Ever Ready lights instead of the LED.... maybe not, if you want working lights

Thank you.!

was going to add a computer, lights etc. but decided it has to stay minimalistic - :)
-- so just a wee Topeak for a spare tube and a CO2 inflator

we've had 3 sunny days in a row in SW Scotland so I've had a couple of rides
nice rolling countryside, average surface roads

.

''thoughts of it being your first road machine since the 50's......''
well the big difference is much more responsive than my hybrid -
a Trek FX 7.2 which - in the same gear ratios - is sluggish
could be the 2 x 15L panniers and the Marathon Plus 700 x 35s though.. :!:

the steering is really twitchy - nervous using the down-tube shifters - so I coast, move the lever, and then pedal.....
I'm sure this will all come together soon
people have said to replace the black levers - so maybe Simplex Retroshifters but.....see comment below
riding - there is a lack off stuff visually over the bars - except a skinny wee 23c tyre - hair-raising going fast downhill

of which, the Weinmann model 500 calipers are, well, rubbish....
could replace them I suppose but present thinking is to enjoy the bike as it is - not what i can make it be

I've not added clipless for that reason - anyway with a touch of Autosol the original Lyotard pedals came up well [added clips ]

however the gear ratios are too high for me in average use
a 52/42T with a 14-17-20-24-28
ok on the 42 but never got up to the 52....... so looking for a 48/36 [ or suggestions. :?: .]

it's fun to ride - whether i am capable of whole days out at my fitness level remains to be seen
50 years ago I'd do a 25m TT and then join the Sunday club-run....ah well.. :|
i know there are many long-term older riders here but
anyone in their 'advancing' years who fancies getting a bike from their past - don't hesitate

wont cost a lot and well worth the ''fun factor''

stay safe..............................john
