I am interested in retro frames that have been updated with modern bits...

Disc brakes (mount welded on or with an adaptor)
Modern Suspension Forks
9(!) speed etc etc

What have you got?

got a 96 kona cinder cone, with disc tabs and modern 100mm manitou forks,my pace ran these forks and ran 27 speed, with thumbies as well :D

heres a link to my kona although it is rigid and ss, it has all modern components on a retro frame. i tried to use all parts that were available during 97, but the modern version, so modern take on the syncros post and xt vee's etc. i like it. i dont use it all the time, just when the suns out to nip into town, and i took it to mountain mayhem last year as my 'pit bike' and got a lot of positive feedback there. its definately coming again this year.

A couple of Trimble. But one is loosing it's modern and gaining retro goodies :D

I've still got this one at the minute - probably not for much longer though.

Suitably retro anyway.....

How do you find the Cromotos?

I like them - except for the fact that I couldn't get the 425mm version as disc only, so I had to remove the rim brake mounts and re-touch the paint work. Luckily, as they're just gloss black, that was easy to do.

Even though they're sold as 26" forks the 425mm's have loads of clearance for a 29" wheel and as big as tyre as you would want (I've had a 2.35" Rampage in there with no problem).
Nice stainless dropouts too...

Overall I reckon that my Hummingbird handles that little bit better - I'll drop/roll off stuff on it that I think twice about on the Kona for some reason and on one of my favourite test sections (a 10" deep and very narrow sheep track that drops round a rock outcrop then down into a deep gulley) the 'Bird tracks straight down the centre as if by magic whereas it's a bit of a battle on the Kona to stop it wanting to try and climb the sides of the rut and then tuck the front wheel under (which, at that location, would end in tears...)

It's all down to rake and trail of course - still, I really like the Kona, it's a bit lighter than the 'Bird and it's been a rolling test-bed for all sorts of stuff. The Excentriker BB, disc brake conversion, 29" front wheel......I'll miss it really

I built up an RSP frame with modern Manitou forks for a friend who wanted something quick.

It works beautifully, but the frame looks weird with its boingy forks.
