If you're like me, then you may like mixing a bit of old with new - i came across this website that offers a decently priced set of hydraulic disc brake hose guides for those with cable guides that you cant face lopping off your frame....

£3.99 a set - but they work a little differently compared to others i'm currently using - they work in the same fashion as Hope bar ends.

See for yourself. I'm due to mount these up to my stumpy, so i'll give them the proper low down once I've given them a ride out too.

lots of other parts on their website as well :)

I have some of those, didn't work very well, so one bike has similar style plastic ones and the other cable ties.

Same, I've had a set, they were crap.

I've just got hold of an old magura pack that contains something that fulfils the same purpose, but haven't tried it yet.

Basically, it's a gear cable that you stretch between 2 cable guides. There's a long length of heat shrink that goes over it, and your hose runs through it too. You shrink the heat shrink, and your cable is held in place, and taught.

Re:

yeah - a note that came with the parts does say that the hose guide is designed to fit larger hoses (from non shimano brake sets) which is a bit disappointing and frustratingly didnt mention (or at least highlight at point of sale) - it even suggests to use insulating tape over the top of it once mounted - which defeats the object - i didn't want to bodge it.
ill give them a go though and see if i can make better use of them somehow. cant be arsed to return them now....

will be giving them a serve in future....
