would 7 speed go on a 11 speed hub with the right spacer?

Got my hands on a wheel with 11 speed hub with 8 speed cassette however my bike is a 3x7 (shimano alivio), I do intent to upgrade to 1x 11 down the line tho
so my question is will my current 7 speed go on the 11 speed body with spacer?
4.5mm + 1.85mm spacer?

What are these 11 speeds of which you speak?

I've never tried with an 11 but know the 4.5mm spacer works with 8/9/10 freehub, as per Sheldon.

Shimano and Shimano-compatible 7-speed cassettes

Sounds like there may be a difference with road and mountain 11s. If the 8 fits now and it's a mountain hub, would you just need the 4.5mm?
