Wester Ross 531

Retro Newbie
Hi, anybody have any information re Wester Ross frames, I volunteer at a charity and we had one of these frames donated, the guy who brought it in said that it had been built for a pro to ride in the Tour of Ireland in the 80,s, have Googled but there isn't a great deal about them, have tried contacting the two guys in Whitby but no joy, will upload some pictures soon but am curious. Paintwork was in pretty poor state and a ding in the top tube. As a project I have taken it back to bare metal and re-primed, also filled in the ding, will probably sell at some point. Stamped on bb shell- JSC and an F, here's hoping,

Re: Wester Ross

Hi, thanks for the photos, there is very little I can find about these, I know that one sold on e-bay recently and it had 23 watchers so I am assuming that they have a following, it would be great to learn more about them, thanks.

Good quality frames with a good reputation BITD. I seem to think that they tended to specialise in touring frames but could be mistaken. I also think that they advertised in Cycling magazine. Who are the 2 guys in Whitby?

You could perhaps contact a Mr Henderson. He had an information page about Wester Ross on his bike website about a decade ago(?). No longer online but you could drop him a PM him via his YouTube channel. I'm sure he'd be more than willing to help.

A video on Wester Ross

I believe "F" on the bottom bracket indicated the frame builder, a chap called Fergus Forsyth. JSC would be John Connell - founder of Wester ross.

It's the guy who uploaded the video above.

John used to build them out this way near Altbae before moving the whole operation down to Yorkshire, was it?
There used to be a few pages floating round on the net. I will see what I can dig up.
