Weinmann brake question.

The brakes front and rear are identical in design, whatever the drop. The fixing bolt just pushes out to make them interchangeable.

It's reignited a question which I've always wanted to ask .......
why did manufacturers, esp British ones - Raleigh, Carlton, Dawes to name a few, have a 610 drop on the forks and a 750 drop on the rear? Were they assuming riders would want a fatter tyre on the rear, and thus needed more clearance?
Horizontal drop outs requiring the back wheel to move forward when removing ?

I would, er, quietly dump the Weinmann in favour of some Mafac or even long drop dual pivots.

If you like stopping, or braking of any kind that is.

As much as I love MAFAC brakes, I like the Weinmann Vainqueurs as well. With the right brake pads I find they work well and use them on several bikes.

I do sometimes miss the squeeling, though ...

Thank you for the offer but I've already bought a 610 front brake and changed the mounting bolt. Problem now sorted although the pads are up as far as the can go in the slots. Luckily they make full contact with the rim.
