Very special Steve Goff with super rare Richie-Issimo lugs

I picked this up on my local FB marketplace page - it's way too big for me but I couldn't resist it -

The bike has needed some work on a few bits, mainly cabling and fettling where bolts were missing or not torqued up properly and chain needed replacing as it was cut way too short (shame as it was a Campag Record one!), and it also needs a new headset to replace the knackered one fitted. All easy fixes.

The build is mainly low end Campag, none of which sets the world on fire but all functional.

Currently looking at setting up for my brother in law, who has a bad back and therefore a need for a tall head tube - and they don't come much taller than this!! If it fits him, I'll rebuild it with the Ultegra groupset off his current bike -

If it was a 55/56 I'd be keeping this as a long termer - it's a very, very nice frame (more info discovered below)

Some may recognise that this is built with very special Richie-Issimo lugs, BB, ends and crown all made especially for Dario Pegoretti and Richard Sachs - it’s not “any old” Steve Goff frame & the previous owner told me it was hung in Steve’s workshop as an example of “what can be done” 👍

Sooo nice!
That’s the ‘Mexico’ (‘extended) head tube?
Have something similar on a Bob Jackson and the geometry is super comfy

It’s way too big for me but I must admit it rides lovely - if my brother in law doesn’t have it I might keep it, stick a rack on it and use it for gadding about - the seat tube is 59 and I normally ride a 55 so there’s not much seatpost showing (even less than in the photo) but with a 70cm stem (it only has a 57.5 top tube) I can ride it ok - in a bit of a “1950’s everyones bikes are too big” sort of style! - we’ll see!!

I was looking at this on FB. The owner was way up north and offered to meet at Watford Gap, but just couldn't make it work.

If you decide to move it on, let me know as it's my size!

Turns out to be too high standover for my brother in law - so it is indeed on ebay now sadly - no sense in me pretending I can make it fit!
