it already has full xt. 7spd. thumbies. theres a scott aero bar on there that will probably need a change at some point. (it's not oem, too big, and looks a little silly for my taste.) i'll probably teardown, polish up the frame, put it all back together, and see how i feel about it. will likely go into fall season that way. i have too many things going on and other projects to finish before doing anything more involved.

US$40 is a great price.
I used to go to one of the local police auctions pretty regularly. The bikes always fetched stupid money - not that there was anything worth buying. You could walk into halfords and buy something similar and new for the same or less money in most cases. They did sell some cool stuff though, like giant canvases and fake mobile phones.
