Unusual and Quirky but Cool retro MTBs

Why not go right back to the start and build a Klunker? Or how about a retro-modern Klunker with Judys, hope or pro stop discs and a load of Ringle bling? Now that would be cool AND quirky!

I really like the X1. What they like? How do they ride?

heavy - you might get one down to 28lbs with some effort, but best I could do on a limited budget was around the 30lb mark.

Being a unified rear triangle as soon as you stood on the pedals you lost a lot of the suspension action - but meant it was a good climber. Mine had the lockable rear shock which further improved this.

Fork choice limited by the 1" head tube.

Great in the mud - one single large pivot point - made for British conditions.

[Note to self: must build mine up again at some point :D ]

I haven't seen a completed Off Road Toad on here yet...

Uncommon; yes, unusual and quirky; no :)

Replacable aluminium drop outs on a steel frame was/is unusal and there aren't many rigid frames which were designed for full cable outer at the back of the bike either.

Its in the detail ;)

Been going thru the Readers Rides section and got a few ideas.

I really like the Breezer fullies. So I think it will be an X1 for a bit while I find a good priced Breezer fully - unless you lot have any other beauties for me to consider.

Cheers all ;-)
