Today's Ride

Cold still, though quite warm and pleasant in the sun

A longer loop today. The tracks are still frozen so some are very fast rolling, others are like riding on cobblestones as the tyre tracks and footprints from the gloop period have set solid so constant chattering, very deceiving as they look wet and soft still. One track, which most the time is a bog hidden by grass, was actually rideable today, the grass was soft but the water underneath was frozen solid so a very strange surface, but great fun.

Most of the time i had quiet trails though still plenty of walkers and horses out on the more popular area's.

The sun was out for most of it, just starting to go grey at the end, now im home it has started snowing again

Nice ride.

Happy new year to everyone and i hope you have more fortune this year, and are able to get out to explore and enjoy this wonderful world, and ride.

Re:

Looks nice. Good 'n' muddy.^^^

Cycled to the sea and along the coast to Hampton today, making the most of a break in the rain. (Got hailed on for five minutes, though. )

Spent a little time thinking about Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance along the way - rider and bike becoming one, subject and object blending together and all that - but equally struck by how many walkers are just in their own little worlds, not even noticing someone in a hi vis top heading straight towards them, let alone noticing anything else in their surroundings: subjects present but not really present.

Great shots velofrog. The one with the boat is very good, though the bike kind of distracts from the rest of the picture, a boat in the mountains

The weather today was a bit of everything, sunshine then sleet, then full on snow and back to sun. A lot milder but cold in the depths of the woods.

An epic ride today. Mansfield is known as not having any hills, of any size that is, though it makes up for that with being in the middle of sherwood forest. At one time, many years ago, you could ride around the whole town going from one wood to another, only crossing a road between each wood. Each wood in itself is pretty good, plenty of great singletrack, twisty rooted heaven. I grew up here riding bikes, Kona's were the perfect weapon, no need for full suss around these parts.

Anyway, today i decided to venture over the other side of town, to the woods i havent ridden in for many many years. Nowadays they are not a continuous loop, ring roads and bypasses have long been here, new developments and industrial sites are going up at an alarming rate and many wooded areas have long gone. However, with a bit of local knowledge you can still join them all up, kind of. Today for the first time in, must be nearly 30yrs, i did again.

The tracks are a mix of well packed rooted single track, along with sandy stretches, Mansfield is dug out of sandstone. The main tracks are cut up from horses and motorbikes but the single track is still untouched. Some were still iced over while some were snow still. All the ponds and lakes were still frozen too. I was able to ride most the tracks i used to, a couple however had disappeared. In one picture you can see the new Amazon warehouse that has gone up recently. A lot of people out today, even in the most remote places.

A great ride, full of great memories :D

COLD today, though in the sun it was nice and warm.

Went for a quick ride up to and around Sherwood Pines. The roads, cars and houses were white this morning when i set off, cold and slippy but i knew the trails would be hard and fast rolling, so was looking forward to it. They didn't disappoint, the trails were frozen, along with the grass and trees in a lot of places, really beautiful scenery, and one of the best rides for a long time.

Lots of walkers out today. Pines was deserted, though i could here voices at the jumps. As usual the trails up there were running really fast due to being frozen, though the best riding was to and from there.

Great morning ride, off up Peak District now, its been snowing up there again

Beautiful!

Not as pretty by any means, but defo cold this morning, hitting below zero up on the downs. Yesterday's snow up there had pretty much disappeared...until I hit a small mound at 40mph down from Badgers Mount. Thankfully no issues but it certainly added a few more grey hairs

Still too dark for any pics...come on sun, you can do it!

Short run to next village to drop off parcels & get some provisions.
