Ah, but it's not representing a 'symbol' here in an equation. It is probably the shorthand word representation of Titanium which is also Ti after the symbol as I explained. Which is pronounced as your accent would say just the Ti part of Titanium.
That is how it is pronounced in all the scientific, research and engineering places I have been.
In the same way Aluminium is pronounced Al or Alu.

Agreed, given there's also Cro-mega I think we can assume the Ti, Al or Cro is just an abbreviation of the everyday cyclists term for the type of metal

Surprised that no-one has mentioned TI-Raleigh - the old Raleigh road racing team - which of course is pronounced Tee Eye Raleigh, because TI stands for Tube Investments which was Raleigh's parent company at the time.

I say literally Ti, as in tit without the last 't'. Just throwing that in there... :roll:
