The most expensive steel frame?

There are at least three custom builders in the US that are doing stainless far cheaper than that and custom to your size and needs. Why pay for the name when you can pay less and get better fit and ride characteristics?

because of the heritage . ;)

why pay $1000 for a GT titanium when you can XACD to design you one for a lot less . I know which one I have chosen .

I agree, sometimes you can get things cheaper than a "brand" name manufacturer can offer them, but it is nice to have the heritage in some circumstances. Having said that I wouldn't pay £3k for a steel frame in any circumtances. ;)

.

I don't know a huge amount about modern frames. But why stainless steel? My only experience of stainless steel frames is in early truimph racing motorcycles. They were good from a rigidity level but couldn't handle the vibes and fractured. So maybe good for road bikes but I wouldn't be keen on a stainless mountain bike. Anyway, why buy steel when you can have ti for less ;)
