Tall rider questions

I raced at the local track for several years when I was a kid, I had a Diamondback Mr. Lucky, which was a heavy bike, and not geared particularly fantastically for racing. BUT I loved it anyways. I have grown quite a bit and when my Mr. Lucky got destroyed, I fell out of the hobby.

I am now 6'5" and I was curious as to whether other tall riders are making do with 20" frames, or am I going to need to get a 24" or something? The difference in frame size comes along with a huge jump in price by the look of it... I was hoping to avoid that.

hi, I too hd a mr lucky, the early one with square steel chainstays, would love another for nostalgia haha. ive still got my hoffman flash xl which although i dont ide that often at all wasnt too bad with larger bars and a post that allowed me to sit down haha. I did have a 24" haro cruiser with big bars that rode very well but i prefer the 26" jump bike more now.

BMX race frames come in various sizes for different height riders.

You should probably start by looking at XXL frames or larger.

Here is a height chart, most manufacturers use same sizes.

Your other option could be to look at the 22" wheeled bikes that S&M and others have started doing.
