Regardless, if the spanner is kept cool enough you'll not need to bother with heat-treating & tempering in the first place.


Youre right, it didnt heat up to red or anything like that, and I've used the cup of water to continually cool it. I thought that that it was already properly tempered and hardened as its a blooming spanner.
Still got to finish it totally to get the super sharp edge on it, and the handle, waylaid by other projects, but will finish it for the end of the month.
