sorry... this is modern and silly

Those of you following this enthralling thread will be excited to know that I tried running no spacers at all AND just one spacer only on the LH side only this evening, neither of which improved my chainline but they did increase both the impending sense of doom and the amount of gack on my new green grips while flicking thru the gears & tweaking my front mech :?

the problem seems to be the fact that the spindle itself is stepped on the LH side, which prevent you pushing it through enough to get it flush with the RH cup. Removing the RH spacer of course was pointless as it has just created an even bigger gap on the RH - no play tho :D I think this shows that sometimes even real men need the instructions and 2 spacers are right (if not needed) on the RH side...

oh, and in the manual the chainline recommendation is 49mm, don't think I'm ever going to achieve that! happily I'm trying this whole debacle on a rugged steel frame, an alu BB shell would have given up already I'm sure!

Back to the retro cranks it is then :p
