You speak a lot of sense Matt, I have a a real problem veering off period correctness with my builds, they then end up not getting used as much as they should

If you have some up to date pics that would be cool, have you had the fats long?

one request:

make use of the pump peg on the IF frame- it's sweet. I hung a little mascot off of it most of the time, till I found a frame pump that fit nicely
