You can fit interrupter brake levers so that you don't need to be on the hoods or drops to stop.

The drops can present some challenges on technical stuff though as they do tend to get in the way of your knees.
 
Whilst Im not having a go at anyone who chooses to ride drops on an MTB, whatever floats your boat IMO, but the only reason Tomac did it was so he could his position off road as close to his position on road when he was riding for Motorolla.........I think :?
 
That was the justification BITD before the coach realised that the position made no difference. Drops off road...tut!

yes it was a position reason .

I love riding MTBs with drops.


Drops = no back pain due to lots of different riding postions. For me anyway.

I made a winter bike with drops on an MTB once and it was horrible.

I tried to like it - really I did.

But it had to go.
