Shimano 1055 & Shimano 105SC (1056)

Hello.

My question today is will a Shimano FD-1056 work with a Shimano RD-1055?

Also what shifters would be suitable?

Many thanks for reading...

Should work. Any Shimano indexed downtube shifters will work, so match them to the number of speeds you’ve got on your cassette. Road brifters up to 10-speed (with the older shift ratio) should work.

1055 and 1056 are the same groupset. 105x is all 105SC - the first iteration was 7 speed, then 8 speed, which updated the derailleurs and shifters (1056 not 1055), but not the brakes. The triple components are named 1057 - not newer, just a variation.

The biggest change was the rear derailleur, which is cosmetically quite different, but seems entirely interchangeable.

(I currently have 4 groupsets worth of 105SC and 3 of RX100 in the workshop, so am quite familiar with it).

Ah, I see.
To be honest, I've always been confused with the naming of early 105 gruppos. 1050, 105sc, 1055, 1056 etc. So for example, I know what 105 champagne looks like, but couldn't tell you which number series they were.
I know which is which appearance wise, just not the numbering.

Thank you...I have been offered a six speed Exage threaded freewheel so may use that instead of the Suntour ultra 6.
