Security: how do people secure their bikes?

I only plan to nip to the post office!
I have an Abus Granite X Plus D lock (“diamond” rated), and I’ve swapped my QRs for Hex.

But I’m still wondering how do you guys secure your wheels and seat? Or do they rarely get stolen? Mine aren’t anything special, Mavic rims perhaps (can’t remember).
I was going to buy one of those plastic coated cables but everything I’ve read says they can be cut through really easily.

I use a krytonite D-lock; on its own for quick stops. For longer stays, the D-lock came with a long cable which i can loop through at least 1 of the wheels.

Generally i just won't leave my bikes anywhere "dodgy", but that's not always possible admittedly.

Depending where you live, you can get a key to local bike shelters at train stations etc. Where i live (Bolton), you can pay £10 a year to Northern Rail and have a key to all of their secure bike parking. This would be handy for securing your bike in a busy town.

There is less risk in my small town, so I can accept a higher level of risk. I have two versions of the Specialized Hardlock Rapper. The longer one can loop through both rims and the frame.

According to manufacturer claims, it would take 3 tools to cut through, one for the outer wrap, one for the flex steel layer, and another for the kevlar core. I've had em both since the 90s

By not telling anybody about what I use to secure my bikes. :)

and by not making my bikes super shiny and appealing to lowlifes with no regard to other peoples hard earned.

cheap town bike, all parts bolted on and it looked like the junk it mostly was (dura ace cranks, xt rear mech, spares from the garage etc.). Even with a cheap lock i could leave it most places safely.

Abus motorcycle lock. Crims have tried cutting through it, but not managed it. Couple with a shite looking bike and most will move onto easier targets.

I mean it’s not an expensive bike, and mostly the bits were from the garage, although I did buy the DX cranks and shifters for it! I’d be sad if someone stole it but it’s worth £150 tops!

Edit: oh and those V12 pedals!

So basically you’re saying I need to build another bike 😉
