How do you find the shifting? I was looking at them recently, but wasn't sure whether the shifting would be as good without ramps. And do the individual cogs notch the freehub?

How do you find the shifting? I was looking at them recently, but wasn't sure whether the shifting would be as good without ramps. And do the individual cogs notch the freehub?
Each cog has notches on it exactly like a shimano cassette.....they are just not bolted / riveted together.
They are ramped, just a slightly different design to shimano, its just a very blurry photo.
I've used these for about 4 years after a recommendation, as i was struggling to find a good 12 -28t. 13-28 i like, as it gives a good close ratio between gears, nice for my countryside rambling!
This ones done probably over 1k at a guess and been in use for 2 years.....ware seems very good on them.

Finished it off last night, last few bits on and a good polish this morning to remove all my greasy prints!
Im really pleased with. Considering the state of the paintwork to start and the bits of damage, it just goes to show that elbow grease pretty much overcomes all problems.
The same goes for the parts....most were rescue jobs, that includes the chainset, pedals, thumbies etc. All were in bad condition and frankly well under half what you would pay for even a reasonable set....let alone excellent.

I never thought i would style a bike around a pair of rims, but the sunsets are lovely and you just dont see enough of them.
I know its not entirely period correct, I also hope you guys are not offended that its not catalogue and i know it might be a bit extreme for some peoples likings, but, if i can do it, so can you. So dig out that frame and get creative......worse case is you loose a bit of time and end up looking a prat at the powdercoaters.....

Having spent a large chunk of my career restoring and building automotive things, i thought i might see just how bad things can be and still get them back round to a usable state. So when a really nasty xtr m900 crank came up and after a brief negotiation with the owner, i took the plunge...

That’s come a LONG WAY.
Test ride over. After a bit of seat moving, bar twisting, shifter moving and bar end tweeking......we're in business.
Fantastic. Oddly not as much like the pine mountain as you would expect given the frame material and very similar geometry.
Not quite as twitchy, much more comfortable with the extra 30mm headroom and the slightly relaxed seat tube means ( for me) a little better transfer of power.
Im calling it a win. Managed to pull an average of 15mph on my little mixed terrain route of 15 miles....which is now sadly good good me!....dont get any older people!
Hopefully i will speed up on my new steed! Yop!
