i must admit for looks i still think the mk2 escort in forest arch mode is unbeatable (esp in rothmans colors as driven by ari vattenen in the early 80,s) and still rallying in clubman events today 30 years on
a true super car of rallying i.m.o

Anything driven by Vatanen looks stunning :D one of my all time favourite rally drivers.... think I only have Kankkunen standing above him, just cause he made rally driving look like doing groceries, most naturally gifted rider ever IMHO

If you watch a bit more of Dave - you (and me) will be disappointed to learn that a current cars (group A?) are faster and better handling than the group B monsters - but, also just a bit dull.

My fave all time car was rallied, a touring car, grass track racer and the Met Police' favourite police car:

Rover SD1 - read where I nicked the pic from - its very funny: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/william.wh ... drover.htm

When this was first sent out, it made such a glorious noise that the Audi mechanics came over to see what the hell it was. SD1's touring career sparked BMW to iniciate their M-Sport division and for a while, the SD1 was the fastest production diesel and hatchback.

I've owned 5 V8 SD1s AND THEY WERE ALL CRAP!!!! But, I loved each and every moment in one :D :D :D

My old mate and fellow (bloody quick  ) cyclist Zak Carr (RIP :( ) had one of these bad boyz in his garage

RIP Henri Toivonen, he was going to be one of greatest all time!

btw: Grönholm is coming back for next season :D

My favourite was Markku Alen in the Lancia 037 Evo. Saw him on San Remo back in 84, boy he was on form that week. Walter Rohl on the 85 RAC in the Semi auto gearbox Quattro was a highlight too- that was an incredible combination. Sadly he threw it off the road on the first night- word has it that it went that far off the road it's still there!

Had a go in a 205 T16 last summer. It has been de-tuned but is still seriously quick. Modern WRC cars are so much quicker than the grpB cars but will never be as special.

Magic times ;)

If anyone is interested there is the Roger Albert Clark Rally next month- 14-17th November, open to historics and 2WD cars. Escorts gallore.
