Remind me about the 80's

Re:

Brake cables were wrapped under bar tape in the pro peloton as early as 1982 - any earlier I have no photographic evidence.

Racers were modifying brake levers into aero levers in the late 80s, by re-drilling the backs so the cable entered from behind instead of from the top. I think I remember from discussions on here, the first ones on the actual market were around 1991

Before then. We had hidden cables on the tandem (DiaCompe) and on my TT bike (Shimano) in the mid/late 80's. I had also drilled my Campag levers as you say after seeing them on Dave Hinde's bike.

Got some Gipiemme aero levers to go on so roughly period correct and I wanted something like that in 83. Rest will be mish mash of Campag as fitted as found in mid 80's. SR rear mech and Record front. GS/Tipo brakes, Tipo hubs with GP4 rims and Cinelli 65 bars and stem as from new. Only dilemma is gear levers. Originals were Suntour. Now to decide on cable outer colour.
