Raleigh - branded as Chicago?

Miage

Retro Newbie
Hi all. I've recently acquired this bike. I'm struggling to work out the year and history etc. Can anyone help?

From what I understand so far:

- Made in Nottingham England
- 4130 cromoly tubing
- Raleigh special products hubs / seat
- Tektra V brakes
- Kalin seat post
- 24 speed Shimano grab shift.

The condition seems really good with no chain slap or obvious wear that I can see.

Thanks for looking.

That is a Raleigh Max Cromo, possibly a "3" model, rebranded as something else. Even the hubs are rebranded RSP (Raleigh Special Products).

It's going to be in the age range of 96-98. I'd go with 96 judging from the rear mech. That model of V would not be original on a Raleigh, but I can't say if theyre original or not to the Chicago model.

One of my favourite MTB frames, stiff where needed, compliant where not, and they give a great ride. Nice bike.
