Re:

My money is still on the Raleigh Royal.

Headbadge is 1983, as it's the older style one

Think this bike had a decal makeover at some point in its life

Did Raleigh do a model called a "Gran Tour" that looked like that?

Shaun

Gran Tour had a silver head tube, but otherwise it could well be... (non brazed on shifters point to this anyway)

I thought the Royal had panto'd seat caps?

Could be mystery solved. :)

Thank goodnes it wasn't a Falcon. We sold them in the 70's and it was always a mystery when they would arrive in the cardboard wrapper........could have been almost anything underneath LOL.

The best was the Black Diamond (we sold more purple ones) which could have had any bit of kit on it, just whatever was lying around the workshop I guess and often nothing like the brochure.............even the colours varied :)

Gran Tour sold as a frameset only and livery (the GTs in my brochures) was black and gold.

Rk.

Re:

Contacted the original bike shop via email today up in Edinburgh, long shot but they might know a bit about it.
